American Foods Group, LLC has an opportunity for a Vice President Operations.   The Vice President of Operations is responsible for the overall success of plant operations. This position will oversee our America’s Heartland, Packing, LLC facility in Warren County, Missouri to ensure effective processes and practices are in place to achieve business success, employee success, and compliance with all applicable food safety and health and safety regulations.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing a leading a strong and effective plant team, and for developing and maintaining a culture built on mutual respect, empowerment, ownership and accountability. The VP of Plant Operations plays a critical role in the success of the company, being an engaged leader and possessing strong business acumen.  This role reports to the EVP of Operations, but will also report to the Project Lead during the project build phase.    Direct day-to-day operations: - Develop and implement plant based operating strategies to create consistent run times and maximize yields and profitability both over the short and long term withing the plant - Work closely with the EVP of Operations to ensure alignment of plant operations with the production and profit targets for corporate operations - Collaborate with plant leadership daily to address issues, solve problems and ensure smooth operations in the plant - Participate in the company’s daily production call and provide updates related to plant production, challenges or issues - Ensure industry best practices are being used within the plant to achieve company sustainability targets, including water usage, waste reduction, natural gas and electrical usage - Provide leadership and motivation that results in a high performing managerial team. - Oversee all operations and business activities within the plant to produce results that are consistent with the overall strategy and mission. - Delegate duties or functions appropriately to managers and supervisors and other employees, and establish procedures and controls to assure completion of plant objectives. Build and develop a strong team that works together to maximize quality, yields, efficiencies, and bottom-line results: - Direct production facility management to ensure the facility is maximizing grosses, yields and plant efficiencies. - Provide guidance to the department and functional managers to ensure timely decision making and problem resolution. - Ensure that plant positions are filled with talented managers and an effective succession plan is in place for key operations roles. - Ensure all parts of the organization are sharing information to optimize sales, grosses and yields. Collaborate with AFG leadership and external customers to ensure optimal value is achieved: - Collaborate with the VP of Engineering to ensure capital improvement projects are on track to generate expected results. - Manage strategic relationships with other AFG locations. - Coordinate production and shipping with other locations and company logistics as needed. - Understand and communicate customer requirements to the facility to ensure products meet customer expectations. Ensure effective processes and practices are in place that result in compliance with government health, food and employee safety regulations: - Oversee and manage the food safety function in the plant and communicate regularly with the VP of FSQA to identify concerns, solve problems and ensure operating practices comply with regulations. - Direct the facility leaders to ensure all food, health and safety compliance practices are being followed. - Work with HR and Environmental Health and Safety leadership to ensure that competitive labor rates, skilled workforce, effective safety programs and low incident rates are maintained at the location. This is a hands-on position that is heavily engaged in day-to-day production activities manufacturing millions of pounds of beef on an annual basis. Individuals in the trainee program will work with experienced employees to learn all aspects of Harvest (Barn, Hide-On, Hide-Off, and Variety Meats), Fabrication (Boning and Packaging), and Quality Assurance (GMPs, HACCP, SQF, SOPs, SSOPs, etc.).   Operations Management Trainees are expected to effectively lead and develop assigned employees to efficiently produce a high-quality product. They will work cross functionally with the Plant Manager, and Vice President of Operations in the day-to-day management of the production Process of the facility.  Further advancement opportunities depend on individual leadership, management ability and the capacity to assume greater responsibility.   Responsibilities: - Work in different departments alongside supervisors and employees to learn, understand and positively impact production operations. - Partner with other managers to plan and direct the work of the organization. - Analyze Company reports to analyze efficiencies, profit and inventory activity. - Manage daily production, yields, and downtime. - Identify trends and recommend proactive or remedial action to manage business situations. - Expertise in government statuettes, law and regulations and company policies, procedures and guidelines. - Work with and through management to develop and implement actions that protect company assets and profitability or set policies and procedures. - Train and develop management skills while leading and motivating others. - Interpret, apply and/or enforce all company policies, programs, rules, regulations and safety rules in support of departmental and corporate goals for safety, quality and production. - Active involvement in employee safety and ensuring overall safety in the workplace. - Foster an environment conducive to achieving continuous improvement. - Proven ability to build strong teams and interact at all levels of the plant, including front line employees. - Attend or lead presentations, meetings, classes or training and create projects or presentations; take tests if applicable. - Interact with vendors, suppliers or customers. - NOTE: This description is not intended to be all inclusive.
