Overview

Job Summary:

The Occupational Health Assistant supports the Occupational Health Department in promoting employee health, safety, and wellness. This position assists with employee medical services, new-hire health assessments, occupational health screenings, medical record management, and other clinical and administrative functions. The Occupational Health Assistant serves as a key resource in ensuring efficient delivery of occupational health services while providing compassionate and professional care to employees.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with employee health evaluations, screenings, and occupational health services.
  • Coordinate and manage new-hire intake processes, including health questionnaires, medical history reviews, and required documentation.
  • Assist with pre-employment, return-to-work, fit-for-duty, and periodic physical examinations.
  • Obtain and accurately document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, height, and weight, etc.
  • Assist with hearing conservation program activities, including audiometric testing when qualified.
  • Support drug and alcohol testing programs in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain confidential employee medical records in compliance with HIPAA and company requirements.
  • Schedule appointments, screenings, follow-up evaluations, and referrals as needed.
  • Assist with workplace injury and illness evaluations and follow-up care.
  • Provide first aid and basic medical support within the scope of training and certification.
  • Maintain medical equipment, supplies, and inventory.
  • Assist with employee wellness initiatives and health promotion programs.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and record keeping within occupational health systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the EHS Plant Manager

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to work in a humid, cold, wet or slippery surface at varied heights in and around moving equipment and parts with the use of personal protective equipment (P.P.E).
  • Applicants must possess one of the following: Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification; Current Medical Assistant certification; Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Health Sciences, Wellness, Public Health, or a related healthcare field; Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification; Equivalent education, certification, or experience in a medical, health, wellness, or occupational health-related field.
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
  • Ability to accurately obtain and document vital signs.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and patient care practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience/knowledge of manufacturing environment.  
  • CAOHC Occupational Hearing Conservationist Certification or equivalent audiometric testing experience.
  • Experience conducting hearing tests, vision screenings, pulmonary function testing, or other occupational health screenings.
  • Experience in occupational health, employee health, urgent care, clinic, industrial, or healthcare settings.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace health and safety programs.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

Summary

America's Heartland Packing is set to open its doors in early 2025. The 775,000 sq. ft. greenfield project will include a harvest floor, carcass chillers, fabrication area, rendering, further processing area, storage coolers, freezers, and loading docks.
