Overview

Job Summary

The Cooler Sortation Employee is responsible for sorting, identifying, organizing, and tracking beef products within the cooler environment to ensure proper product flow, quality, food safety, and inventory accuracy. This position works closely with production to move products to the appropriate processing storage, while maintaining compliance with company, USDA, and food safety standards. Employees must work safely in a refrigerated environment, follow all sanitation and PPE requirements, and support efficient production operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Trimming visual contamination, foreign objects or quality defects from carcasses.
  • Removal of SRM using tools such as vacuum or other equipment.
  • Using hook, knife or other tools like saws to prepare carcasses for further processing.
  • Identify and separate products that require additional trimming, rework, inspection, or further processing.
  • Accurately labeling, marking, and tracking product for inventory and production flow.
  • Maintaining product segregation to meet food safety.
  • Performing visual quality checks and removing contamination.
  • Transporting products to the correct hotbox/cooler location.
  • Recording production data accurately and completing required paperwork or system entries.
  • Following all food safety, sanitation, animal welfare, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Wearing required PPE and working safely around moving equipment and production lines.
  • Assisting with cleaning and sanitation of work areas and equipment as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to work in a humid, hot, wet, slippery, or moving surface at varied heights in and around moving equipment and parts with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience/knowledge of manufacturing environment.
  • Previous heavy machinery experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Previous agriculture production/beef plant experience.
  • Knife skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Be attentive to detail.
  • Ability to work safely, wear PPE, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to attend work consistently.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • Follow all safety, food safety, and animal welfare or sanitary dress procedures.
  • Able to stand for lengthy periods of time.
  • Display a strong work ethic.
  • Be able to work in cold temps.

Summary

America's Heartland Packing is set to open its doors in early 2025. The 775,000 sq. ft. greenfield project will include a harvest floor, carcass chillers, fabrication area, rendering, further processing area, storage coolers, freezers, and loading docks.
