Overview

Job Summary

The QA sorter lead will conduct carcass and carcass part sorting activities and identify any abnormal conditions or defects before carcasses and their parts are presented to online inspectors. This person will focus on overseeing the QA sorters and assist with their qualifications and ongoing training.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Be able to perform the QA sorter job.
  • Oversee and assist the QA Sorter department.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day control of QA Sorter department activities according to prescribed schedules, priorities, operation sequence, and processing specifications.
  • Cover QA Sorter duties when someone is absent.
  • Train employees in QA sorter areas.
  • Responsible for the safety and productivity of production employees in designated area(s).
  • Responsible for being a leadership resource to employees, providing knowledge, experience, motivation, support, and advice.
  • Responsible for safety and housekeeping and for proper operation of equipment.
  • Evaluate department work performance; take corrective action in accordance with company standard practices and procedures.
  • Complete required paperwork.
  • Assist meetings.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of work temperatures warm, hot, humid, cold, wet or with slippery surfaces at varied heights in and around moving equipment and parts with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food safety and quality.
  • Must be able to successfully complete training:
    • Beef Modernization
    • Straight knife, steel, hook

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous FSIS inspector training and experience.
  • Knife experience.
  • Bilingual.
  • Quality assurance experience.
  • Hands-on knowledge, training and/or experience in Basic Microbiology, Basic Chemistry, Sanitation, and HACCP.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Knowledge of beef anatomy to recognize common parts of the beef carcass, skeleton, and digestive tract.
